A brave soldier and passionate mixed martial artist, Roy Kontos is stationed at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas. He's currently serving his tour in Iraq and expects to return home in the fall. Roy has an mma record of 5-1-1. His base is wrestling, a sport he's competed in since the age of seven. Roy also trains in Muay Thai, BJJ, and every aspect of mma in the past five years.
Roy says that his day to day life in Iraq consists of running missions from base to base, where he serves as a body guard for the higher ups. When he's not protecting his superiors, he's training in the gym or wherever he can find a place to work out. A war zone is not always the best place to work out, but Roy says that he does the best he can to stay in shape. He states that Iraq is still a dangerous place to be and 108 asks that we not forget about our troops overseas.
Roy would like to give shout outs to Tait Fletcher and everyone at Undisputed Fitness. Kimberly and Hayden Kontos (his wife and son), and Heather McKearnen.
In closing, Roy asks that Americans don't take their freedom and high standards of living for granted. He says that the troops don't have a lot of ammenities. Reliable electricity and warm water are hard to come by. As Roy puts it, "whenever we want power or warm water, it always seems to go out."
Please continue to support our troops overseas and pray that each and everyone of them come home to their families. 108 supports Roy Kontos, freedom, and liberty. Thank you Roy for sharing pictures and sharing your journey with us. We look forward to having you fight at our event this fall and keep training hard!
